One-day hike to Mt. Oyama under winter sunshine (2023-12-24)

Mt. Oyama has been considered an object of faith since early times. Until the late 19th century, only male prayers with a religious purpose could enter to the upper part of the mountain only in the limited period of a year. But now, everybody who has physical fitness can go up to the top of the mountain all year round.

I enjoyed one-day hike there last Sunday. It was very fine day.

Mt.Oyama at dawn.

There are more than five routes of footpaths from the bottom to the summit of Mt. Oyama. I took one of them and had a round trip from Minoge Village. If you come from the direction of Tokyo and follow the same route as mine, take Odakyu Line from Shinjuku to Hadano first.

The approximate time required:
Shinjuku (train 1:00) Hadano (bus 0:25) Minoge (walk 1:00) Yabitsu Pass (walk 1:00) Mt. Oyama (walk 1:20) Minoge Pass (walk 0:30) Minoge.

Minoge Bus Stop in the morning sunlight.

The foot path in a forest led me to the upper part of the mountain.

When I reached the ridge, the view of Sagami Bay and Oshima Island welcomed me.

After two-hours walk ascending, I arrived at the top of Mt. Oyama with an altitude of 1,252m above sea level.

Many hikers had a picnic lunch enjoying mild sunshine and marvelous view.

We could see even the skyscrapers in Yokohama which is about 37km in distance.

And of course, Mt. Fuji was seen.

If you want some outdoor activities, please come and enjoy Mt. Oyama. It takes less than two hours from Tokyo.
