Time Slip to Edo Era in Mt. Oyama Tour

I attended a tour named Time Slip to Edo Era in Mt.Oyama as an interpreter guide which was planned and promoted by Isehara City and Nippon Travel Agency. The participants to this tour actually experienced the fascinating world materialized in Mt, Oyama just like in the nostalgic good old days three hundred years ago.

The tour bus stared Shinjyuku at 13:00 Jan,18 and arrived Oyama around 14:00. There awaited them was a splendid Noh stage built on a pond in the precinct of Oyama Afuri Shurine. There tour guests were presented the opportunity to see a Kyogen play (comedy play) and a Noh play (serious rather tragic play) in row. They were really fascinating. After enjoying two plays, tour guests were ushered to the stage and learned how to walk in the stage of Noh. They were also given the chance to fit Noh masks on their faces and shown the gorgeous Noh garments. The masks and garments were made 300 years ago or in more old days.

There was a temporary tea room built in the yard of the Noh stage and the guests were beckoned to the seats in front of the tea room and saw a tea master serve the tea.

Then tour members rode a cable car and elevated to the mountainside to the Oyama Afuri Shrine. Here they attended a formal worship conduct by a shrine priest which accompanied a shrine maiden’s dance performance. It was a really mysterious and fantastic experience.

After the worship, they had great dinner! The dinner was a modern cuisine served in course.

After the dinner they came back to the mountain foot by cable car and came to a narrow street illuminated by many lanterns named “Edo Entertainment Street” where they are introduced Spinning Top Show, Sake tasting and Fun Party with real Geisha Girls plus Japanese Gambling “Chou Han Betting”. Actually, the guests had really an exciting time there like the pilgrims to Mt, Oyama did after their worship to the Mountain deities 300 years ago.

After the fun time in Edo Entertainment Street, the tour guests checked in their each logging where the pilgrims actually had stayed when they came to Oyama in Koh group( tour groups for religious purposes).

Next morning the guests had a morning ritual at each logging and then set for a big morning ritual conducted at Oyama Temple from 7:30 AM, and after that, they came back to their logging for breakfast and waited for taxis to come to take them to Isehara station, the nearest railroad station.

That’s the whole course of the “Time Slip to Edo Era Orama Mt,Tour." It was really a great tour. Please wait for another chance of such a fun tour plan.
