Goshuin – sacred vermilion seal
Goshuin is a sacred vermilion seal with some black handwritten characters which serve as a talisman. Many, not all, Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples offer us this sacred seal.
In our city Isehara where Mt. Oyama is located, there are also some shrines and temples that offer us goshuin.
For obtaining goshuin, first of all, you need to obtain (normally buy) a special notebook called goshuin-cho which has bellows folding.
Then you can ask priest or monk for goshuin. In many cases, there is a special window in each shrine/temple office for it. You need to give some offering, which is normally 300 - 500yen for each.
This is my goshuin-cho with some goshuin. All of them are from temples/shrines in Isehara City.

Goshuin and precincts of Oyama-dera Temple
The approximate time required by public transportation is as follows:
Shinjuku, Tokyo (train 0:50) Isehara
- Isehara Sta. (bus 0:30) Oyama Cable (walk 0:15) The Lower Sta. (cable car 0:03) The middle Sta. (walk 0:05 to and from Oyama-dera Temple) (cable car 0:03) The Upper Sta. (walk 0:05) Afuri-jinja Shrine.
- Isehara Sta. (bus 0:25) Hinata-yakushi (walk 0:15) Hinata-yakushi Temple.
- Isehara Sta. (bus 0:10) Godo (walk 0:15) Hibita-jinja Shrine.
- Isehara Sta. (walk 0:13) Isehara-daijingu Shrine.
If you have will and energy, you can visit these five places in one day! However, I recommend you to spend more time for enjoying historical/cultural atmosphere in each sanctuary. Moreover, there are some other temples and shrines in Isehara which offer us goshuin.
